State of your Union

Where are we? What is going on within our lives? How can we cut through the fear, doubt and nervousness and find the best part of ourselves? It is that part, the creative, wondrous, childlike part that serves as the catalyst for our journey into creativity and inventiveness.

Are you doing all you can to make your dreams reality? I can tell you for myself, the answer is no. There is always more that can be done. However, it is in being honest with myself that my goals will be attained. D.W. is brutally honest. He is probably the most brutally honest person on planet Earth. He keeps me accountable, not only to him, as my co-author and business partner, but to myself.

You see, if I told you I was doing all that I could, then where else would I need to go? By admitting that there is work to be done, I am committed to doing it. Here are a few quick tips for you to get the most out of your dreams. Time to make them a reality.

  1. Get help – we all need it, so let’s get to it. There are blogs, posts, social networking sites and friends out there who are in the same place as you. Reach out to them, say hello, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
  2. Set a goal – whatever your dream is, it is more easily reached if you set it as an accomplishment that is concrete. Dreams are great, but they fade with time. Give yourself a date to reach a certain objective and go for it. You can always abridge as you go, but by seeing the end of the race, you will be more apt to run it.
  3. Set a schedule – whether it be writing, drawing, sculpting or building a website, give yourself a daily goal to reach. You will be amazed by what you have accomplished when you take the time to track it daily.
  4. Have fun – remember why you started down this path in the first place. I give D.W. a hard time, but to be honest, without him, this journey would be nowhere near as interesting (I can thank his colorful use of expletives for that)! Infuse fun into everything that you do. Make sure you set that as a goal, as well.

What is the state of your union? How can you make it great?
