Today, I want to say thank you. Thank you to a friend.
What is a friend? A friend is someone who comforts you, someone who supports. A friend gives you counsel – whether you want it or not. When you do not want it, I have found, is usually the time you need it most. A friend will disclose honestly, when honesty is least suffered.
A friend will rejoice in your successes, and empathize in your failures. A friend will not let you wallow in them, though. Rather, a friend will lift you back to your feet, especially when you cannot support your own weight.
A friend will accept your shortcomings, but won’t let you be satisfied with them. A friend will motivate you to be more. To be a better person. In my instance, to be a better husband, father, artist, and storyteller.
A friend will give you all that they are, and all that they have. A friend is a remembered smile, a knowing glance, a light in the dark.
I want to say thank you. Thank you to a brother.
What is a brother? A brother is all the things that make up a friend. A brother is so much more. A brother doesn’t have to be your blood, a brother is your blood.
A friend is someone for whom you would fight. A brother is someone for whom you would die.
Thank you, Ski-ter, my brother. You make me a better man.
Here’s your quote of the day:
“ I don’t believe an accident of birth makes people sisters or brothers. It makes them siblings, gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and brotherhood is a condition people have to work at. ”
